For anyone wondering how to get started with GSC, it’s simple! You only need the Google account associated with the Google Workspace for business.

How GSC Helps with Fixing Crawling Issues?

As you know, a page must be crawlable before being indexed to rank in the search engines. SEO experts recommend regularly monitoring the crawl stats report in GSC whether or not you’re experiencing crawl issues. It will let you know if there are any problems with the below search engine actions;

  • Fetching Robots.txt File
  • Connecting to servers
  • Resolving your website’s DNS

How do you review and fix crawl issues? In the report, review the ‘Hosts’ section of the page to check if any subdomain is experiencing a problem. You’ll see a fail rate report if there are any previous crawl issues. Under the By Response section, you’ll see the percentage of crawled pages that resulted in suboptimal response codes. Click ‘Not Found’ to review the pages with 404 responses.

Fixing Indexation Issues with GSC

To see the pages not indexed in GSC, click the Pages report in the left column of GSC. It will have information about your website’s indexed and not-indexed pages. Another way to check this is through the Sitemaps report. You can find this under the ‘Sitemaps’ section in the left column of GSC. Select ‘See Page Indexing’ in this section, and you will get a detailed report listing your website’s indexed and non-indexed pages and also the reasons why the pages aren’t indexed in search engines.

GSC allows you to evaluate the ‘crawled-currently not indexed’ pages by following the below steps;

  • Click ‘Inspect URL’ for the respective page and ‘Request Indexing’ manually
  • You can also check if a page is available in Google by clicking the ‘Test Live URL’ button
  • By clicking on ‘View Tested Page’ you will see the test results and rendering HTML with details of page resource issues and JavaScript console errors if any
  • Check the HTML and see if your content is missing. If it is, it means Google couldn’t crawl your website’s page affecting your rankings.
  • On fixing the errors, you can request indexing on the main URL inspection page
